The Manor had been home for sixteen years. For sixteen years, Draco imagined nothing could interrupt his well-heeled, silver-spooned existence.

That changed with the Dark Lord's arrival. The Manor felt cold now, chilled by Dark Magic saturating its stone, with curses settling like cobwebs into the corners, ready to strike at unwary passersby. But worst of all was where Professor Burbage had died. Been murdered, Draco reminded himself, hurrying past the room still haunted by her tormented spirit.

The refuge of his youth was gone forever, and his present was unthinkable. If there was any future, Draco couldn't imagine it.

Gah, you captured this so well--I particularly love ...with curses settling like cobwebs into the corners... Really eerie and terrible. Not the writing! You got that, right? I just reread this and went eep!

I couldn't even imagine having someone as evil as the Dark Lord under my own roof. *shivers* Draco must have been seriously terrified the entire time.

Draco must have been seriously terrified the entire time.

I know it. I think sometimes about how Harry and Draco's horrific childhoods were inverted -- Harry's in his formative years when he didn't know he was being abused, Draco's when he was old enough to know that he should have been able to stop it, but powerless to do so. I doubt either would come out of that fully sane.

Thank you! I'm glad that you liked it -- and eerie and terrible is a fantastic compliment!
