Your imagery is just perfect, and you use it with such mastery, weaving it with the moods and thoughts behind it - one terrific example is the description of the rocks - a vision that's concrete, clear, tangible - and then you top it off with this revelation: If the very ground beneath them is shifting, then how can anything be absolute...
I also find the ending of the story to be exactly what I was looking for. I like stories that end on a moment where things could change...or they could not. You give us enough information to let us make up our own minds - in other words, you trust your readers! The Spanish setting is exotic as well, taking us out of the familiar. You use the natural elements to great effect.
