Stirring methodically, Draco watched the potion run blood-red, the exact shade of the cassis his mother favoured. He knew this would not taste nearly as sweet.

"Why would anyone drink this?"

His godfather's eyebrow steepled. "You assume their wants are of concern."

"It's Dark magic then?"

"Inexact and therefore meaningless categories, Dark and Light. Your actions are what matter. You'd do well to remember this once you enter Hogwarts."

That was Severus, always considering right and wrong. But from his father Draco had learned a greater truth: with power coiled like a bullwhip in your hands, you were always right.
